Index Built on Extensive Data and Experience

Through thebauxiteindex.com website, CM publishes indexes for third party traded bauxite into China. These indexes provide critical market price data for both industries. On top of an extensive database of bauxite prices dating back to the emergence of Chinese merchant refiners in 2008, we collect, collate, analyse and cross reference, where possible, bauxite price data to provide detailed and accurate pricing data to the market. Our extensive industry network and reputation in the industry provide us with the means to check and cross reference bauxite pricing data.

CBIX Index

CBIX (HT & LT) is “value in use” CIF reference price for a standard gibbsitic bauxite (5% reacting silica, 10% moisture, 50% reacting alumina – 5/10/50) which reflects the market conditions for bauxite imports into China. Each CBIX value is a value in use, trade weighted, average price of a representative sample of bauxite imports into China over a period of about one week.

Using the same ViU methodology, we have derived from our CBIX model three regional indexes including Guinea LT, Indonesia LT and Australia HT, each with a standard bauxite specification of their own.

China’s Aluminium Value Chain Quarterly Update is an independent and detailed assessment of the key metrics of China’s bauxite, alumina and primary aluminium industries, as we see them, presented in the form of an easily digestible set of charts and tables, together with relevant commentary on significant events, emerging trends and other key themes arising from our analysis.

For over a decade, we have been continually conducting in-depth studies of these industries in China, among which field studies are a cornerstone of our work. Over that time, we have drawn on, and continue to draw on, a diverse range of sources to gather primary data, on which our analyses and forecasts are based.
